Send a man to the grocery store....

I don't know why I remembered this today. But it bears telling. So I will.

Last Thanksgiving I realized that I was out of a few minor ingredients. Having everything under control at home I jumped into the car and headed to the store. Once inside the store I started laughing and didn't stop until the next day.  The clientel of the store was 80% male. I had never before seen this many men in the store at one time. And I would say that approximately 70% of the men in the store were there alone. Again something really rare. Maybe 70% of the men alone in the store were on the cell phone talking to some woman in their life and staring blankly at the rows of goods on the shelves.

'Uh, so you don't want the whole wheat crackers. How about the pretzel...ah... no, not those huh....'

This conversation in various ways was happening all over the store. Crackers, olives, cheeses and spices.

Random Amusements....

One man asked me what bread I bought and where to find seasonings. But he looked single and might have been hitting on me. I really should have dh buy me another wedding ring. First he lost his and then, within months, I lost mine shortly after the birth of my first. I am not attractive and so always feel really sorry for guys hitting on me. How desperate they appear.

Another homeschool year?

We will soon be contacted by our daughters' school regarding her 5th grade enrollment. And boy am I torn up about it. On one hand I really would love to see her go back on the other hand I don't believe it'll happen. She missed over a month and a half worth of school days in 3rd grade. And that doesn't even account for the fact that the days she did go to school, she usually (about 80% of the time) came home early. She was one sick little girl. Her allergies have robbed her of a normal life. She doesn't have food allergies, thank goodness. But she is allergic to just about everything else. Anything that grows, plants, trees, fungus, any kinds of animals.... the list goes on. She can't go on play dates. There is only one friend whose house she can go to. And even there she can get a flare-up at times. Sending her back to school will probably bring all the misery back. This past school year has been the best in many many years. And because she is not constantly exposed she's missed only 2 days of school due to allergies. How can I send her back to this again? And on the other hand... how can I keep her from school?

She went to a private school which is incredibly supportive and helped us through this year in the hope of bringing her back. It's a old school. 125 years. So with the exception of one building the rest are equally old. And 5th grade is the last grade to spend time in the new building.  And while she went to school there, we had to stop her the last year from going to the few classes she had in the old buildings because she'd react within minutes of going in there. So, how can she manage there next year?

As much as she misses her school she enjoys home schooling. We are learning at her pace and she enjoys that. We also incorporate more into her curriculum. As much as I enjoy teaching her and her little brother, I wonder if I can do her justice. Am I really good enough to keep on teaching?

If I were religious I might pray about it. But I am not. So thinking, meditating and letting it all percolate is the best I can do.  My gut reaction is to keep her home. Keep her safe. Keep her as healthy as possible. How can I, in good conscience send my child to a place I know makes he sick. And then....how do I educate her? With her medical issues she'll need a great education so she can support herself with a high paying job and health insurance.

Just rambling.... oops, it's 12:30 AM time to go to bed.

My dd saw the movie with her Dad several weeks ago. I suffered through the Chipmunk Squeequel with my four year old. Today I went with my friend Shannon to see the movie. It's too long..... I mean I loved it and would have happily sat through more but I needed to pee soooo bad.  I didn't even take a sip of water the entire time but I have a bladder the size of a grape and this was torture. The movie is of course amazing in its execution. I need to think about it before I write more. There is a big message in that movie.

From the mouth of the innocent...

At times we wonder just how much information our little angels do absorb without our knowledge.

Our almost 4½ year old son was watching football with his dad yesterday. On comes a Viagra ad. My darling little angel looks over his shoulder and in a very matter of fact way says to my dh " you need to get yourself some of those." When I asked my dh what his reaction was he merely said he was glad that he didn't have a mouth full of beer at that moment.

Now, all that being said I have a pet peeve. Well, actually I have many. This is just one of them. Why do the networks run ads during games etc. that want to make parents either cover their childrens' eyes or ears or both? Football is family time in many homes. Does my 10 year old really have to listen to Viva Viagra songs or Cialis' - when you are ready? She is starting to understand some stuff and my 4½ year old (like all preschoolers) parots everything he hears and sees. I know it's all about making money but really....?

Abandoned Buildings

Abandoned Places

Here is a link to an interesting site. Abandoned Buildings seem to have such a draw. Our imaginations can run wild looking at these pictures from the safety of our home (or office - naughty).  And what would countless writers of horror fiction have done without them?  Enjoy the site. There are lots of interesting images. Be sure to let the site owner know what you think. Sites like these are what make the Internet worth it!

Wordle your World!

Here is a cool website the link to which I found on another blog. Unfortunately I don't remember the blog otherwise I'd love to give that author credit. Just create amazing word pictures with words of your choosing. Play around, have fun and watch the time fly. Please note that this site is a tremendous detriment to efficiency both at home and the workplace. Here is a quick sample of what you can make there. Kudos to the creators of that site.

Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening
Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

This poem has captivated me since childhood. Just playing around with my blog.
